Supplies Needed to Make a Mermaid Crown
- Plastic princess crown
- ACTÍVA's Activ Wire Mesh
- ACTÍVA's Rigid Wrap plaster cloth
- Scissors
- Container filled with warm water
- Medium sized paintbrush
- Acrylic paint - ocean blue
- Bag of seashells
- Hot glue gun
- Optional: plastic jewelry and accessories
- Optional: foam head to hold the crown during construction
How to Make a Mermaid Crown
Step One:
Very carefully cut three triangles of Activ Wire Mesh and hot glue them to the crown. Let them dry.
Step Two:
Cut small rectangles of Rigid Wrap. Wet them in the bowl of water - one at a time. Add a layer of Rigid Wrap to begin covering the plastic crown and the Activ Wire Mesh. Add three layers total in order to give shape to the crown. Let the crown dry completely. This could take anywhere from five to ten hours, depending on the humidity at the time of construction.
(Important: the Rigid Wrap needs to be completely dry before gluing accessories or painting.)
Step Three:
Paint the dry crown with the ocean blue paint. Let it dry for at least thirty minutes.
Step Four:
Start gluing different shapes of shells, gems, chains, plastic jewelry, etc. to the crown. Let it dry for at least twenty minutes.
(Tip: we started on the top of the crown, on the pointed parts of the crown. We used the same type of shell to make the crown look symmetrical. Then we improvised the rest of the design to make it look more organic.)
And that is all you need to do to make a beautiful mermaid crown with real seashells! If you enjoyed this project, please visit our Project Gallery for more great ideas!
