Materials Needed:
- ACTIVA’s Flower Drying Art Silica Gel
- Plastic container with lid
- Fresh Flowers
- ACTIVA Hearty Clay
- ACTIVA Activ-Tools Clay Tools
- Fondant tools
- White glue
- Water
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brush
Step 1:
Flower Drying
Pour Flower Drying Art into the container to a depth of 1.5” to cover the bottom. Cut flower stems to about 1.5”. Place flowers face up on the surface of the Flower Drying Art. Space flowers so they do not touch each other.
Slowly sprinkle Flower Drying Art around the base of the flowers, adding it to the top and sides of the flowers.
Cover the container with an airtight lid and put away in a dry place. Drying times vary depending upon the number of flowers in a container and the moisture content of the flowers. Watch for the blue crystals to turn pink. This action shows that the moisture from the flowers is being absorbed into the Flower Drying Art.
Step 2:
Remove
To remove flowers, slowly pour off the Flower Drying Art until blossoms are uncovered. Gently brush away the Flower Drying Art that may be on the petals using a soft paint brush.
Step 3:
Forms
Use the Hearty Clay to construct these forms:
Step 4:
Join
Join the forms together using a little water on your finger tips and one of the Activ-Tools.
Step 5:
Facial Features
Create the eyes, nose, mouth and ears by adding on additional clay or making impressions into the clay using sculpture tools. Fondant tools that are used to decorate cake icing work great with Activa’s Hearty Clay.
Step 6:
Crown
Add the preserved flowers by inserting them into the soft Hearty Clay. White glue may be added if needed to attach petals without stems.
Step 7:
Dry
Allow the Hearty Clay to dry.
Step 8:
Paint
Use acrylic paint to paint the portrait bust.
