Materials Needed:
- Activ-Low Fire Clay
- Water
- Bat
- Sponge
- Rib Tool
- Chamois
- Wire Tool
- Faceting Tool
- Ceramic Glaze
- Brush
Step 1:
Prepare clay by wedging it.
Weigh out desired amount of clay. (1 1/2 pounds used for this sample bowl)
Step 2:
Form clay into a sphere and slam it onto the center of the bat attached to the potter’s wheel.
Step 3:
Wet hands and clay.
Step 4:
Turn the potter’s wheel on and center the clay.
Step 5:
Open the form.
Step 6:
Pull up the wall.
Step 7:
Shape the inside of the bowl using a sponge.
Step 8:
Shape the outside of the bowl using a rib tool.
Step 9:
Smooth the lip of the bowl with a chamois.
Cut the bowl off the bat with a wire tool.
Step 10:
Allow the clay to dry to a leather hard state.
Step 11:
Trim the foot.
Step 12:
While the clay is still leather hard, carve the outside wall with the faceting tool.
Remove the clay shavings.
Step 13:
Allow the clay to bone dry.
Step 14:
Bisque fire the clay bowl in the kiln.
Step 15:
Glaze the bisque bowl.
Step 16:
Glaze fire the bowl in the kiln.
