Instructions
Begin by printing out the Sacred Heart Magnet Set Template.
Cut out the various shapes with scissors.
Open up a package of Hearty Clay Super Lightweight Modeling Clay.
To create the sacred heart flame, form a little ball of clay.
Indent the center of the ball and pour in a little paint.
Knead the clay until the color is evenly distributed. Add additional paint until the desired color is achieved.
With the rolling pin, roll out the clay into a ¼” thick slab.
Place the flame template on the slab.
Trim the excess clay with the knife. The easiest way to do this is to start in the corners and cut outwards.
Smooth out the edges of the flame shape with your fingers. Then, add some texture to the inside of the flame with the knife as shown.
Repeat these steps to create the wings.
Cut out one wing then flip the template over to create the second wing.
Color some clay with brown paint for the cross and thorns.
Trim away the excess as you did with the other shapes, starting in the corners and cutting outward.
Smooth out the edges and add a little detail to the cross as shown.
To create the thorns, roll out three thin pieces of the brown clay. Join the three pieces at the top and form them into a braid.
Next use the knife to make indentations into the braid.
Create little conical thorns and stick them onto the braid. Trim this piece so it is slightly longer than the width of the heart.
Now you are ready to make some red clay for the hearts.
Continue the same process until you have made three hearts.
Once you have all of your pieces cut, it's time for assembly! Layer the wings, flame and cross behind the hearts and carefully smoosh them together on the back to secure them in place. Wrap the thorns around the front of the cross heart and secure the ends in place on the back.
Set the pieces to dry on top of a piece of Activ-Wire Mesh. This will help with air flow so the pieces dry quickly and evenly.
Now it’s time to take these hearts to the next level with some additional embellishment! Carefully apply a thin layer of glue to the hearts with your paintbrush. Then sprinkle on some red glitter and set aside to dry.
Next apply some white pearlized paint to the wings with a light dusting of iridescent glitter on top.
Accent the cross and thorns with some metallic bronze colored paint.
Accent the flame with some bright gold paint and gold glitter.
Once dry use a hot glue gun to adhere magnets to the back of each heart.
Now you are ready to adorn your refrigerator in classic Mexican style!
